William David “Spike” Walker, 28, of Bear, DE passed away on Thursday, November 18, 2010. Born on February 6, 1982 in Wilmington, DE, he is the son Joyce (Green) Walker of Bear, DE and Robert C. “Skip” Walker of Middletown, DE. Spike as he was affectionately known by many, graduated from Middletown High School in 2001. He worked for SimplexGrinnell as a pipefitter for a number of years. His compassion for helping others was evident at an early age. While in elementary school he volunteered his time with Special Olympics at many basketball events. Later he joined the Odessa Fire Company, where he was the recipient of the distinguished Fireman of the Year award in 1998 at the young age of 16. He was proud to be a member of the fire company. Spike was an avid hunter and fisherman. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Brian Walker of Middletown; paternal grandmother, Roberta Walker of Delaware City; several aunts and uncles, Dawn Gwynn, James Green, Janet Frabizzio, Jeri Fioravaniti and Joel Green, and many cousins and dear friends. A celebration of Spike’s life will be held 3 pm on Tuesday, November 23 at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad Street, Middletown, DE where friends may visit from 1:30 – 3 pm. Interment will be private. In honor of Spike’s love for the fire company, his family suggests memorial contributions to Odessa Fire Company, P. O. Box 81, Odessa, DE 19730-0081.
