MVC with Entrapment - Route 1 Bridge
Thursday, November 29, 2012
Station 15, Station 4/24, New Castle County Medic 6 and DSP Trooper 4 were dispatched to a MVC (M29D5 -MVC-Not Alert) at 21:17hrs on the Route 1 Bridge North Bound. Chief 24 and BLS A24 responded at 21:19hrs and arrived on scene at 21:22hrs. Chief Brown confirmed one trapped with an extended extrication and established the command. Squad 4 with a crew in quarters responded with 6 personnel and arrived on scene at 21:24hours. The members quickly stabilized the box truck and went to the driver’s side and removed the driver’s door. A set of 32B Jaws of Life Hurst tool was placed in the center of the vehicle to relive the dash from the pinned occupant. Rescue 15 arrived at 21:28hrs and started removing the passenger side door. The A-post was cut and the dash was rolled using several RAMS. The trapped person was extricated at 21:51hrs with 24-8 marking the extrication. The injured person was then transported to Christiana Trauma Center via DSP Trooper 4.The scene was placed under control at 21:58hrs. Route 1 was closed for over 2 hours. Units on scene were: Squad 4, Engine 4, Chief 24, BLS A-24, BLS B-15, Rescue 15, Station Fire Police, Medic 6, ALS Supervisor 24 and 12, DSP Trooper 4, State and County Police Departments and DEL DOT
