Involved Tractor Trailer Fire - Rte 1 NB at Tybouts Corner

On December 23rd, the OFC and Delaware City was alerted to an MVC on Rte. 1 southbound on the bridge around 1100hrs. After the scene was placed under control 15-8C was alerted to a tractor trailer fire at Dupont Hy and Rte 1 NB. 15-8C (Grimm) requested Rescue 24 to assist with the fire at Tybouts Corner. While en route 22-9B arrived on scene and advised the tractors trailer was involved and it was closer to Rt. 40 on Rte 1. Units arrived and found the tractor had already disconnected from the trailer, and the trailer was involved. A bulk of the fire was knocked down on the initial attack but the fire had spread throughout the trailer. Crews had to go through the tractor trailer and clean up hot spots while the scene was cleaned up by B&F Towing and DelDot. Crews utilized T-Rex Saws, K12 Saws, saw-zall to open the side of the truck to extinguish the fire and prevent the spread throughout the trailer. Crews from Delaware City and Odessa remained on scene until 0732hrs while mitigating the scene. There were at total of 44,000lbs of product in the truck and 7 rollback dumpsters had to be utilized to clean up the scene. The scene was turned over at 0733hrs to DelDot while the scene was cleared and B&F removed the trailer. The roadway was completely opened later in the day for the busy holiday traffic.
