Escape from Fort Delaware Triathlon - Delaware City

24 Marine 2 was requested to assist the Delaware City Fire Company with their Escape from Fort Delaware Triathlon on Sunday May 22nd. The event which is sponsored by Piranha-Sports had 200 people swim from Pea Patch Island / Fort Delaware to the Branch Canal in Delaware City which began around 11:45 am. Participates then travel via bicycle down Route 9 to Vance Neck Road (Odessa Local) and back to Delaware City. Deputy Chief Vucci and 1st Vice President Whittington manned the 24-M-2 and assisted a few tired swimmers back to shore. The Triathlon participates are given 1 hour to swim across the Delaware River which is approximately 1 mile or 1500 meters. After the swim, participates then ride bicycles for 40k or 24.8 miles finishing the day with a run for 10K or 6.2miles.
