On July 24, 2017 at 1308 hours the Odessa Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle fire on Route 1 northbound just north of the Drawyers Creek Bridge. Engine 24 arrived on scene to find a commercial truck carrying shingles and other roofing materials ablaze. The fire was quickly suppressed by firefighters but not before the fire had spread to the passenger compartment, destroying the interior. Once overhaul was complete the scene was turned over to the Delaware State Police. Fire units operated on scene for about 30 minutes.
