As Winter Storm Quinn approached Delaware, the calls for service trickled in. In the evening of March 6, 2018 rising waters caused a portion of Old State Road to flood. Subsequently, a vehicle with two occupants became disabled while attempting to drive through the water. The two occupants were removed from the vehicle and brought to dry land by boat without incident.
As Winter Storm Quinn impacted Delaware in the early morning of March 7, 2018, the crashes came in one right after another. The OFC handled a MVC with a rollover, MVC with entrapment, and a multi-vehicle MVC forcing emergency workers to close Route 1 northbound in the area of Route 299 for about 30 minutes. Later that afternoon the OFC handled a crash on the northbound span of the Roth Bridge. Despite the seriousness of all the collisions no one was seriously injured.
The OFC thanks all of our mutual aid agencies who assisted us in the service to our communities and the citizens who traveled through it, despite the effects of Winter Storm Quinn. Thank you to the New Castle County Paramedics, Port Penn Fire Company, Townsend Fire Company, Delaware City Fire Company, Delaware Department of Transportation, and the Delaware State Police.
